Centre for Molecular Processing
The Centre for Molecular Processing is a new three-storey research building providing 1,520 sqm (GIA) of accommodation.
The ground floor includes seminar, meeting and administration space, while upper floors provide wet laboratories, writing areas and dry research space for IT, mathematics, engineering and computing. A glazed bridge links the building to the existing bioscience facility at first-floor level.
A full-height atrium connects the three floors and reflects the collaborative nature of the research environment. The layout balances open-plan working with the enclosure and containment required for laboratory spaces.
Laboratories, meeting rooms and seminar spaces use mechanical ventilation and comfort cooling, supported by rooftop plant. Other areas use natural ventilation where possible, supported by the stack effect of the atrium. Rainscreen cladding and solar shading reduce solar gain while maintaining good levels of natural light.
